This year's theme: Bridging the gap between the individual and international law: humanitarian concepts and criminal responsibility

ELSA Bucharest is presenting the 7th Edition of

Law Is Better Than War - Humanitarian Law Summer School, event which will take place during the 18th and 29th of July, 2010, in Brasov county, one of the most beautiful mountainous regions in Romania.

As accustomed, this year's LIBTW! aims at promoting International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights values through a series of lectures, seminars and workshops, case studies and moot court competitions. Having previously benefited from the support and experience of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Committee of Red Cross and the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees, we plan on continuing these partnerships and also contacting renowned specialists in this area of expertise, in order to further increase the event's value and prestige.

Academic-wise, although still a "work in progress", the 2010 edition of Law Is Better Than War! will continue the trend set out by the previous LIBTW!'s.

Because past year's themes have varied from International Tribunals and International Humanitarian Law to Means and Methods of War, or Protection of Civilians during Armed Conflicts to Persons Deprived of their Freedom in Modern Conflicts, but also Human Rights in times of Terrorism and Asymmetrical Conflicts, this summer's Law Is Better Than War! Summer School will set the table for discussions concerning current Human Rights and Humanitarian Law related issues.

With these in mind, we plan on bringing together up to 30 interested students, lecturers from top Universities and celebrated guests and giving them the opportunity to debate on what IS really going on these days as far as Humanitarian Law and Human Rights are concerned.

Keep in touch for further details!

Let's make law better this summer!
